Equipment § Impact testing machine

The impact testing machine is used to test various hard materials with an angle of 150 degrees. After free-falling with a certain weight to hit the test piece, the swing arm drives the pointer to raise at an angle less than 150 degrees, and the energy that the test piece can absorb is converted from the angle indicated by the pointer to determine the impact energy of the material. Reasons for the reduction of the angle: 1. The test piece has shock resistance energy (impact value). 2. The wind resistance loss of the swing arm impact hammer and other parts during the impact process. 3. The pointer friction and inertia loss of the impact machine. Calculate the wear and wind resistance loss E1= L x F/2 x [(COSα’-COSα)+(COSβ’-COSβ)], calculate pointer friction, inertia loss E2= L x F x (COSα’-COSθ), calculate the impact value E = E’-(E1+E2), F: the weight at the impact end when the swing arm is horizontal, L: the distance from the axis to the impact end. Each test piece is tested at least 3 times and the average value is obtained, and the width F of the test piece and the calculated energy J, S, R are recorded. Impact energy value (J): the energy value of the test piece after impact. Test piece strength (S): the energy value of the test piece ÷ the test piece width (F). The strength per unit area of the test piece (R): the energy value of the test piece (J) ÷ the area of the test piece.

 

Experiment § Extension protective adhesive for the globe

Everyone has seen globes at the bookstore. There are two common manufacturing methods for globes in the bookstore. One is to use ultrasound to bond several pieces of PVC and blow air to shape the globe this method is usually less expensive, and sometimes it can be used as a balloon. The other is a hard entity, the interior may be composed of acrylic upper and lower hemispheres, and the exterior is laminated with a layer of PVC extension layer that has undergone heat softening and blistering, which is divided into the northern and southern hemispheres and after the final combination, the equator is used as the connection point of the line in the middle, so there is no trace of the connection line on the outside. This globe cannot be used as a toy, it is used as a teaching aid in front of the desk. The reason why I know globes very well is that my 5-year-old son is very obsessed with globes. Every time he goes to the bookstore, he must go to the corner where the globes are placed and take a good look at the world map. I have bought three inflatable globes (two of them were broken due to air leakage) because a hard globe is very expensive, so I bought a very small one, but unexpectedly, I am now also going to do an in-depth study of the globe. The general impression of adhesive resins is that the adhesive force is good, but with the diversity and special applications of plastic materials, the adhesive resins also need to have excellent extensibility and extend the molding together with the substrate. Soft, tough, and scratch-resistant are the best advantages of the outer protective ink for globes. The customer is reluctant to spray the globe after forming due to environmental protection factors. At present, the company has overcome the extension problem, but the wear resistance is not enough. However, we have found elastic and wear-resistant raw materials, which are under experimental development. In addition to globes, the Everwide team is also very interested in the IMD* industry. Therefore, the company has recently actively developed photocurable resins with excellent extensibility. This series of resins have good extensibility and can be used in screen printing to meet the needs of different customers.

*Note: The process of 3C industry IMD (fine-film decorative arts) has successfully broken through and overcome the shortcomings of traditional printing. The surface decoration of traditional plastic products is to print various patterns on the plastic material. These patterns will be easily scratched due to long-term friction, resulting in extremely poor aesthetics. The IMD process is to print the printed layer on the inner layer, and the appearance of the ink cannot be scratched at all. The ink can be stretched with the plastic substrate to make 2D and 3D products, which can be called a new revolution in plastic printing.

Knowledge § What is the relationship between viscosity and temperature?

According to the Arenes equation, viscosity (η) is proportional to temperature (T) as follows:

ηµ Exp(-Ea/RT)

From this relationship, it can be deduced that the viscosity is about 1/2 of the original when the temperature rises by 10°C. Conversely, when the temperature drops by 10°C, the viscosity is about twice as high. The above relationship roughly holds for homogeneous (without inorganic fillers) Newtonian fluids, but may not hold for heterogeneous, non-Newtonian systems.

 

Product introduction § GA004

GA004 is a light-curing resin developed by our company for the application of glass facades with waterproof requirements. The high viscosity can effectively control the slip phenomenon in the process of laminating the glass facade. GA004 has the properties of toughness, resistance to cold and heat shock, etc. It does not produce yellowing after baking at a high temperature of 80 °C for more than one month. No degumming occurs after two months of immersion in hot water at 80°C. After being soaked in water at a temperature of 25°C, it can be maintained for two years without degumming. GA004 is a waterproof glass special glue that has undergone rigorous environmental testing and has stable quality. For related products, please refer to the technical data of glass adhesive.

 

Living § What kind of "science" do you believe in?

Professor Yang Weizhe of National Taiwan University believes that the lottery winning numbers are a matter of chance, and the probability of each number appearing is the same, so it cannot be predicted. In other words, the odds of winning the jackpot are the same whether you pick your numbers, the computer picks, or the numbers on the cards. If you agree with the above argument, do you consider writing the numbers "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6" when writing numbers? I've asked others, and the answers I get are: "This group can't win the jackpot!", "Don't waste your money!". And not only Taiwan or Hong Kong, but I also have never heard of that country's lottery drawing out this group of winning numbers. This seems to tell us that the lottery is not as simple as what a "theoretical" scientist like Mr. Yang described. Therefore, when you believe that "some combinations of numbers will not win", you must also believe that "some combinations will win in a certain period". This is why everyone is desperately trying to calculate the number combinations with a high probability of winning when "practical" scientists (the process of calculating the combination numbers with a high winning probability involves at least mathematics and statistics) or obtain inspiration through the support of mysterious forces. If someone asks me, which science do I believe in? I can only smile bitterly. Because I don't know either, how can I believe it? But if someone does write the numbers "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6", I can tell you there is at least two good news. First, there are very few people who can write this set of numbers, so you have a good chance of winning the jackpot. Second, you don't have to match the prizes, because when the results of this group of numbers are actually released, it will definitely cause a big stir, and you will naturally know that you have won the jackpot.
