Experiment § Temperature-sensitive color-changing adhesive
In the manufacturing process of electronic products, they often use adhesive to bond various materials. In order to check that the adhesive is indeed in the correct position, the fluorescent agent is usually added to the glue and then irradiated with a UV lamp for confirmation (Figure 1). If the customer doesn't want to add a fluorescent agent, but still needs to maintain the detection function. What should we do? We have developed moisture-curable and UV-curable adhesives with temperature-sensitive discoloration. Moisture curing type can change from dark to light by 70℃ heating (Figure 2, 3). UV curing thermochromic glue also has the same function. When it is irradiated by a UV lamp, the heat generated by the light source causes the adhesive to change color, which can be used as a test for whether the adhesive has been irradiated by the UV lamp (Figure 4, 5). Customers can use this function to detect whether the adhesive has been heated to ensure product quality. This temperature-sensitive discoloration is available in black, red, and blue for your choice. In addition, we can also produce temperature-sensitive color-changing adhesive heated at 40°C. Knowledge § What is a chain extender? What is an anti-hydrolysis agent?
Polyester polymers may have carboxylic acid groups at the ends when they are synthesized. Adding a chain extender can react with two carboxylic acid groups and connect the original two molecular chains through the chain extender to form a new molecular chain. The chain length obtained by the reaction is the addition of the original two molecular chains to obtain the result of chain extension. The molecular chain of polyester may undergo a hydrolysis reaction in a high-temperature and high-humidity environment, and the molecular chain scission will also get the molecular chain end of the carboxylic acid group. The carboxylic acid group will make the polyester hydrolyze faster, which is not good for the stability of the polyester. Similar additives are called Anti-Hydrolysis Agents, which can react with carboxylic acid groups to extend the life of polymers.
Living § Taroko Express in my heart
There are many things, when we don't see it with our own eyes or experience it with ourselves. It seems hard to believe that it will happen. This year, the worst Taroko express accident in the history of Taiwan Railways allowed us to perceive the worst situation. No matter how small it is, it will always happen. This incident forced us to face up to some problems such as safety awareness, emergency exclusion, and other industrial safety. During the few days of the incident, I watched the constantly broadcast news, and thought about the source the incident, which helped me learn from the pain. However, it takes courage to face mistakes. If we can remember the unexpected "gift" that experience has brought us, and after wiping away our tears, we can look back at ourselves and think how to correct mistakes. This will be an opportunity for growth. Maybe we can start by educating the next generation!
The development of a habit cannot be corrected within a few days, such as tires, cylinders, and furniture dropped on the highway. These accidents can be avoided. As long as we realize its importance and take action, we won't let the same thing happen again and again around us. People know what they are doing, it is very important for everyone.
