Experiment § Flame-retardant SMC resin

Since the BMW i series carbon fiber composite family car came out in 2013, carbon fiber composites have become more and more common in family car models. The advent of fiber composite vehicles is to reduce carbon emissions of automobiles, so it will be used in large quantities in public transportation, and there is also a demand for flame retardancy. When we make SMC, resin is first coated on release paper (Figure 1), and pave short fibers on it (Figure 2). After covering film, rolling roller is performed (Figure 3), so that fibers can be rolled away ( Figure 4). In order to allow resin to fully wet fibers, viscosity of resin will be controlled within a range. Too high won’t wet fiber, and too low will cause resin to overflow. After standing and aging, it becomes SMC composites, which can be used to make finished products (Figure 5). Everwide has recently developed a two-component flame retardant resin for SMC composites, which allows 2 mm thick test pieces to pass UL94V-0 (Figure 6). After baking this formula at 150℃/20 minutes, Tg can reach 120℃, which meets feasibility of medium and high temperature demoulding. This resin has the best operating viscosity after mixing, and it won’t be too hard and difficult to operate after being made into mature material. Compared to previous SMC, it has better operability. Activity § Learning is endless

The personnel of the manufacturing department are explaining the operation and disassembly of machines (Figure 1).A comprehensive fire and toxic chemical drill is conducted every six months (Figure 2). Raw material manufacturers visit our company to discuss various performance differences when raw materials are used in our formulations, such as breakdown voltage, surface and volume resistance, etc. (Figure 3)


Knowledge § Why does Silicone react differently in different seasons?

The reaction rate of moisture-cured products varies with temperature and humidity. In summer, the weather is hot and there are often thunderstorms in the afternoon. At this time, temperature and humidity are relatively high, so reaction speed will become faster; The weather is cold and dry in winter. At this time, temperature and humidity are low, so reaction rate is reduced. The rate change is also related to the amount of Silicone catalyst: Under the environment of high temperature and high humidity, the reaction speed is fast, and the influence of catalysts on the speed is not obvious; In a low-humidity environment, reaction rate of the formula with a large amount of catalyst is significantly faster.

I have read three books recently, and my personal preference rank is: 1.Who Moved My Cheese? 2.Peeks & Valleys 3.The Present. What they have in common is that they hope readers can recognize the facts from different angles when facing problems. Who Moved My Cheese? describes when the environment changes and comfort zone disappears, different choices will get different results: Situation is not a problem, thinking is the key. Peeks & Valleys points out that prosperity and adversity can change according to mindset. The Present emphasizes that the best gift we get in our life is to learn from the past and not to repeat mistakes, so that we can grasp the present and create the future. These books are all written by Spencer Johnson. He is good at using storytelling to inspire people. For example: The cheese in Who moved my cheese? is the goal that people pursue. The four protagonists in the story are two little mice Hsiuhsiu, Kuaikuai and two little people Hengheng, Haha. They once found dozens of cheese in maze and lived a comfortable life. One day, the cheese was all gone. Hsiuhsiu and Kuaikuai started to find new cheese immediately. Conversely, Hengheng yelled, "Who moved my cheese?" He and Haha started to dig a wall, trying to find the person who moved the cheese. When digging a half, Haha thought it was meaningless to find the prisoner, so he left Hengheng and started looking for new cheese. When we encounter things, we can rarely recognize the situation quickly and embark on an unknown journey like Hsiuhsiu and Kuaikuai did ; It’s not bad that renew your efforts after introspecting and accepting the changes just like Haha; The most regrettable thing is to evade reality and to find someone responsible for things, just like Haha did. None of these books talk about major principle, but we often ignore that these negligible decisions will change our lives.
