Experiment § Filling UV resin without gap

At present, the smart phones on the market all demand thinness and lightness, and the touch panel technology has also transformed into a thin and colorful structural design. These graphics are printed using printing technology, and printing ink will cause the original surface to have a height difference. As shown in Figure 1, the current process requires using a thicker OCA (Optically Clear Adhesive) optical adhesive to fill these gaps. In this way, bubbles often remain on the edges, the yield cannot be improved, and the overall thickness cannot be reduced. Everwide Chemical has developed a non-gap filling and leveling UV Resin GP074-24 under the customer's patent. This product can fill the gap caused by the ink, create a new surface, reduce the OCA film's thickness, and then improve the process yield and reduce costs. Because there are no edge defects, the optical performance is better, and the mechanical parts can be made thinner (Figure 2). At present, customers use this structure with no gap to produce mobile phone protection stickers (Figure 3, 4). When you buy a protective sticker for your beloved mobile phone, don't forget that we are behind it!

Activity § Assessment of new colleagues

When new colleagues come to the big family of Everwide, we will continue to arrange education and training to flexibly support other departments to understand the work process. After three months, we will have an assessment score. We will discuss the assessment results with new colleagues; we will understand the learning, living, and adaptation of new colleagues and allow new colleagues to refer to their own areas of improvement. The members participating in the assessment are senior colleagues who work with new colleagues. Through their long-term interaction with new colleagues, the results of the assessment can go deeper. In contrast, these senior colleagues will also realize that they play a crucial role because their behavior and attitudes may affect new colleagues. New colleagues will have three assessments of this type within a year. Through these activities, everyone thinks together: What kind of team do we want to build? What are the group members we want? What can I contribute? Through these activities, a consensus is established step by step, and everyone can make progress together.

Knowledge § Compared with acrylic resin, what are the disadvantages of photo-curing epoxy resin?

Compared with free-radical polymerization of acrylic resin, cationic polymerization of epoxy resin has the following disadvantages:

  1. The reaction speed of cationic polymerization is slower than that of free radical system, and some products with fast processing speed are not suitable.

  2. The epoxy resin system's reaction depth is shallower than that of the acrylic system, and products with larger thickness cannot be molded.

  3. Compared with free radical photoinitiators, cationic initiators have a lower absorption wavelength and a narrower absorption range.

  4. Compared with the acrylic system, there are fewer types of epoxy resin monomers and oligomers, which affects the formulation's variability.

With the development of new materials, these shortcomings are gradually being overcome. Take the hardening depth and absorption wavelength as examples; the performance now is much better than 20 years ago.

Living § Stunning French JEC exhibition

In an external training course, the lecturer mentioned that he had seen the BMW i series introduction with carbon fiber materials at JEC Europe. I am very interested in JEC Europe and BMW i. Driven by curiosity, we set out to plan this year's visit to Europe. The primary production location of the i-series electric vehicles is in BMW-Leipzig, which is located on the outskirts of Leipzig. The factory tour is divided into five categories; this time, we participated in the "i-series electric vehicle production introduction": starting with the introduction of carbon fiber materials and then explaining the molding of the exterior parts and the joining of the carbon fiber frame, and finally the completion of the car. Navigation information can be found on the official website:

https://www.bmw-besuchen.com/en/information/information.html.

Then came the three-day JEC Europe exhibition. We stayed in Paris, France, for three days, trying to find manufacturers and materials that we are interested in. Although very tired, full of harvest! To communicate with manufacturers, understand materials, and discuss details, I used English extensively to talk to people for the first time; thus, my oral English has improved a lot, so I can communicate in English naturally! Besides, I am also thrilled to learn some market information about composite materials in Europe. Understand that carbon-fiber vehicles' construction method will be based on resin transfer molding (RTM) instead of Thermoforming. What surprised me most was that alcoholic beverages were provided in the exhibition hall. In addition to sparkling water, the venue's people also had champagne, white wine, and beer. This is quite rare in Taiwan, but it seems to be a common occurrence in European exhibitions and dramatically reduces the tension of watching shows.
