Equipment § Differential Scanning Calorimeter

Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) measures the transformation of temperature and thermal energy through the time and temperature graph changes. DSC data can provide physical and chemical properties, including thermal energy, glass transition temperature, melting point, and degree of baking. It is mainly used to measure the relationship between physical properties and the temperature of samples under program-controlled temperature. In the process of heating or cooling, with the change of the structure, phase state, and chemical properties of the substance, the corresponding changes in physical properties can be measured. Under program temperature control, the relationship between the power difference and the temperature of the input sample and the reference is measured—the heat of the sample changes during the heating process. The amount of heat absorbed (or released) can be known as the differential sweep curve due to the real-time power compensation. DSC can also measure the Heat Capacity change (i.e., Heat Flow change) of the sample during heating. Find the centered value tangentially at the slope where it changes the most. DSC can perform the heating scan and constant temperature scan, and the following information can be obtained with these two experimental operations: (1) Glass Transition Temperature, Tg; (2) Melting Point, Tm; (3) Melting Heat; (4) Crystallization Temperature, Tc; (5) Degree of Crystallization & Crystallization Time; (6) Reaction Heat, ΔH; (7) Specific Heat Capacity, Cp; (8) Aging Speed Rate of Cure & Degree of Cure; (9) Oxidized Stability; (10) Thermal Stability.


Safety § Latex gloves (Part 2)

We talked about allergy symptoms caused by latex gloves in the last issue. Prevention and treatment are essential for those of us who wear latex gloves every day. Here are a few ways to improve allergy symptoms: ① When choosing latex gloves, you can choose powder-free or low-protein ones to reduce the incidence of allergy symptoms. ②If your hands sweat due to wearing latex gloves for a long time; it will cause hand discomfort. You can wear a layer of sweat-absorbing cotton gloves first and then use latex gloves to prevent hand discomfort. ③ When wearing latex gloves, do not use oil-based hand creams and lotions unless such items can reduce latex allergy symptoms. ④After removing latex gloves, wash hands with mild soap and dry hands completely. ⑤ Disposable latex gloves, not reusable. Because latex gloves are likely to have lost their ability to defend against harmful substances, wearing latex gloves for too long should be avoided. ⑥ If you already have latex allergic symptoms, you should avoid direct contact with latex gloves or latex-containing products. ⑦ If you have latex allergy symptoms, please consult a specialist immediately for medical assistance. Knowledge § What is the function of DSC heating scan?

For unreacted thermosetting resins, a DSC ramp scan can measure the onset temperature of the reaction, the peak temperature of the reaction curve, and the total exothermic heat of the reaction. For thermosetting resins that have been hardened, DSC scans can measure the glass transition temperature, specific heat, residual reaction heat, and even higher cracking onset temperatures of the hardened resin. For thermoplastic resins, the hardened product's glass transition temperature and specific heat can be measured by the DSC heating scan. In crystalline polymers, the melting point, heat of fusion, crystallization temperature, and crystallinity of crystallization can also be measured.

In the field of mobile phone buttons, stainless steel and silicone, PC and silicone, which are entirely incompatible combinations between metal, plastic, and rubber, the Everwide Chemical R&D team proposed Primer FZ014 to solve.

The construction method is quite simple: first, spray or paint FZ014 on the plastic or metal surface, let it dry at room temperature for 5 minutes, then put the plastic or metal into the injection mold and inject silicone, and the assembly is completed. It has been widely used in the technology of thinning co-mold of mobile phones.

Living § The experience of visiting the bicycle exhibition (Part 1)

The "Taipei International Bicycle Show," Asia's most prominent and one of the three largest bicycle shows globally, has successfully concluded on March 16. It was held at the newly opened Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Center this year. Both the area of ​​the exhibition hall and the scale of the exhibition reached a record high. People say: "Experts watch the doorway; laymen watch the fun." Although we are a big layman for bicycles, some of our products are related to this industry, so we still have a day of fun like shopping, and put forward the following impressions to share with you:

1. Division of labor of spare parts factories: 762 manufacturers and 2,842 booths are participating in this auto show, most of which are manufacturers of bicycle spare parts. The so-called spare parts of a bicycle can range from obvious things such as frame, front fork, seat cushion, tire, steel ring, etc., to pedals, flywheels, chains, LED lights, screws and other less noticeable items, and even clothes, helmets, baskets, shelves, magazines, etc. were not expected initially items. The general public is familiar with the well-known brands that have formed the car. Behind these star factories, there is a large group of factories with delicate parts and components to support them and jointly establish the "Bicycle Kingdom." 2. Emphasis on product design: The secret that enables numerous spare parts factories to flourish in the market at the same time without becoming a vicious competition is the differentiation of product design. In this exhibition, I noticed that more than three manufacturers only produce pedals, and the configuration, material, and color of each product are designed differently. The same goes for the car factories that assemble the entire bicycle. Some products emphasize blue/black, some go green/black, and some use orange/black for color matching. These design concepts are not only applied to the bicycle itself but also the peripheral goods of the bicycle, such as maintenance hardware tools, pumps, and even clothing gloves, etc. Through the ingenuity of these designs, the product's value is greatly enhanced.
