The principle of the hard disk drive is to read and write the data on the disk by the read head. These mechanisms are protected in the confined space formed by the upper and lower hard shells. The upper and lower shells are locked with screws at the positions where airtight gaskets are released to prevent external moisture, dust, and other contaminants from entering the inside of the hard disk.

It is very troublesome to make special rubber gaskets for each type of hard disk with different shapes. The new process uses UV glue to replace the rubber strips: use the robot arm to draw the UV glue around the bottom shell and heat it after exposure. The rubber strip can be formed, and finally, the upper cover can be locked. From this application point of view, the airtight gasket of UV glue should have very low outgassing because if volatile matter runs to the disk, it will affect the reliability of the hard disk in the future.

In response to this purpose, we developed the JC775 series. Its hardness is only shoring A 40~60; it has excellent repeated flexibility and good creep resistance. After being pressed for some time, it still has the properties of an elastic body, which can meet the requirements of disassembly, repair, and reorganization of hard disks. Due to the selection of formula and improvement of the manufacturing process, we especially overcome the tendency of the surface of the UV adhesive to be wet and sticky and the doubt that the residual monomer will volatilize in the future. After UV and post-baking of the JC775 series, the residual amount of volatile matter is very low. Even at a high temperature of 130°C, the weight loss in one hour is less than 0.1%, which is a reliable airtight adhesive for hard disks.

General PU (Polyurethane, polyurethane) is a thermosetting polymer. TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) is an abbreviation for thermoplastic polyurethane. TPU is mainly a linear polymer synthesized from high-purity MDI, bifunctional polyester or polyether diol, and 1,4-butanediol.

Long-chain diols are soft segments that provide TPU molecules with soft, elastic, and other characteristics; MDI and 1,4-butanediol are hard segments that provide TPU molecules with hardness, rigidity, and strength, and other characteristics. In the hard segment part, due to the mutual hydrogen bonding, they will attract each other into stable crystal regions, which are dispersed in the amorphous soft segment. A series of TPUs with different physical properties can be obtained by adjusting the composition and ratio of the soft and hard segments. Compared with thermosetting PU, TPU can be melted by heating for injection and extrusion or dissolved in a solvent as a coating or adhesive. At present, TPU was beginning to be used as a substitute for PVC and applied to artificial leather.
